VoiceOver For MAC | Screen Reader For Blind

VoiceOver is one of popular screen reader. As we know mac OS(Operating System) is one of the biggest Operating System. So Apple has a Screen Reading software too just like windows has NVDA(NonVisual desktop access) and JAWS.
VoiceOver is one the best screen reader for people which prefer MAC. VoiceOver is Screen Reader built into APPLE inc, macOS, IOS, WatchOs, TvOS and Ipod Operating Systems. The VoiceOver allows the user to read the screen without using eyes sight. The software increase the accessibility for blind, low-vision user, as well as for user with dyslexia.
VoiceOver was first introduced in Mac OS X 10.4 and the goal behind this was users who had difficulty in reading the screen due to vision impairment, and for the blinds. A preview had also been made which is available for Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, and which was called "Spoken Interface Preview."

VoiceOver is also support the user which is both blind and deaf. its include many braille for blind and deaf persons. VoiceOver does not just tell you what’s happening on your Mac Operating System. It helps you make things happen on your screen . It gives you descriptions of each icon one the screen and provides helpful hints as you need whether you  using gestures, a keyboard, or a braille. It supports more than 35 languages, And it's also include voice options.

So Let's start learning how to use VoiceOver. just tag along a little longer and we will show you how you can use VoiceOver that increase your accessibility.



  1. How To Start (on/off) The VoiceOver 
  • You can use Siri to turn On VoiceOcer.  You just have to say something like "VoiceOver turn on  OR Turn VoiceOver on" and same goes for turning it Off just say "Turn the VoiceOver Off"
  • If you are already using the VoiceOver already and wants to turn it Off just press "Command-F5" together.
  • If you mac OS has a touch pad press it three times.
  • You can also turn On/Off by using accessibility options. For using the accessibility option you have to press Command-F5.
  •  You can also Turn It On/Off in the shortcut panel, press the Tab key until the VoiceOver response to your click then press space bar and walllhhhh...!!!!. your screen reader is ready to use
     2. Use and Short Cuts Welcome dialogue

  • For keep using the VoiceOver press "Enter Key" OR click "use VoiceOver".
  • If you want tutorial then you just have to press the space bar and click on "Learn More" .
  • When you turn on VoiceOver the "Welcome Dialogue" appears every time so if you want to turn it OFF you just have to press "V" OR select "don't show this message again".
  • To exit the dialog without turning on VoiceOver, press Command-Q or Escape, or click Turn Off VoiceOver.
    3. How to use VoiceOver Help Menu

  • Help Menu is used to increase the accessibility of VoiceOver. This menu also help you to get quickly access to keyboard and sound help OR settings.
  • When VoiceOver is turn ON press "VO-H" to open the help menu.
       NOTE: VO represents VoiceOver Modifier.
  • You can navigate help menu using "arrow key" OR "cursor control keys".
  • It will help you if you know the menu name just type some of it's it will shorten your time. 
  • To list all items again just press "Delete Key".
  • When you enter in a sub-menu you hear the number of items it contains.
  • If the menu item have a keyboard command VoiceOver pronounced it for you. 
  • To select the an item you just have to press "Return/Enter key" OR "Space Bar".
  • To close the VoiceOver Help menu without making a selection, press the Escape key or Fn-Tab.
